Who flat removals are for
Flats in Bradford come in many forms: modern apartment blocks in the city centre, Victorian warehouse conversions in Little Germany, flats in converted mills around Shipley and Saltaire, and upper-floor flats in big terraced houses in Manningham and Heaton. Our flat removals service is for anyone moving into, out of or between them.
Many flat moves are small. A studio or one-bedroom flat might fit easily into our man and van service. Larger apartments need a full crew. Either way, the building usually decides how the day goes. A tenth-floor flat with a good lift can be quicker to move than a second-floor flat up a steep shared stair.
Bradford buildings and the problems they bring
City centre blocks often have lifts, but the lift may be small, shared and in demand on a weekend. Many buildings ask residents to book the lift and protect its walls. Some have loading bays in a rear yard, while others rely on short-stay parking on busy streets. Converted warehouses can have grand staircases but awkward turns, narrow corridors and heavy fire doors.
Upper-floor flats in older houses usually have no lift at all. The stairs are often steep, with a tight turn on the landing, and the front door may open onto a narrow street with little space to stop a van. We plan these just as carefully as a large house.
Leases add another layer. Many flats are rented, so the move out date is fixed by the tenancy, and the landlord or agent may inspect the walls and hallways afterwards. We protect door frames, lift walls and communal areas as we go, which helps with your deposit as well as with your neighbours.
How to prepare for a flat move
- Ask your building manager about moving hours, lift booking and loading bays.
- Measure the lift, the doors and your largest furniture.
- Tell neighbours if you will be using the lift or stairs for a few hours.
- Pack early, because flats have little space to stack boxes.
- If you are short of time, our packing service can help.
Cost and coverage
Flat moves depend on the floor, the lift, the distance to parking, the size of the flat and the building rules. For a rough idea, try our moving cost calculator. For a firm figure, get a free quote.
We move flats across the district, including the city centre, Manningham and Shipley, and anywhere in the UK. If you are a student leaving a city centre block, see our student removals page. For everything else we do, visit our Bradford removals page, or call 08000862860.
What affects the cost
Floor and lift
An upper floor with no lift takes longer than a ground-floor flat or one with a large lift.
Distance to parking
A long walk from the nearest bay to the door adds time to every trip.
Size of the flat
A studio takes less van space than a three-bedroom apartment.
Building rules
Fixed moving hours or lift slots can shape how the day is planned.

Flat removals FAQs
Do I need to book the lift?
In many apartment blocks, yes. Check with your building manager or letting agent and book a slot for both ends of the move if you can. Tell us the times so we can plan around them.
Can you move a flat with no lift?
Yes. We move flats on upper floors with stairs only. It takes longer, so tell us the floor when you ask for a quote and we will send enough people.
Will my sofa fit in the lift?
Measure the inside of the lift and the sofa before moving day. If it will not fit, it may need to go by the stairs, so let us know in advance.
Where will the van park?
It depends on the building. Many blocks have a loading bay or short-stay spaces, while others rely on street parking. Ask your building about loading and tell us what they say.
