Terraces, students and families

Great Horton runs south west from the edge of the city centre, following Great Horton Road out towards Clayton and Queensbury. The streets either side are lined with stone terraces and back-to-back houses, many built for workers in the mills. Closer to the city, the area sits near the University of Bradford and Bradford College, so plenty of houses are shared student lets.

Further out, around Horton Park, Beldon Road and the streets towards Wibsey, there are larger terraces, semi-detached houses and some newer homes. Horton Park itself, opened in 1878, sits next to the Park Avenue cricket ground and gives the area a large green space.

Parking and access

Great Horton Road is busy with buses and traffic for most of the day, so we rarely load straight from it. Instead we park on a side street and plan a short carry, which we check before the day. Many side streets are narrow and lined with parked cars on both sides, so it helps if you can tell us about any permit bays or tight corners.

Inside, back-to-backs and older terraces often have steep, narrow stairs. We measure sofas and wardrobes first and take beds apart where needed. We are about 4 miles away on Alum Drive in BD9, and we give a three-hour arrival slot on the day.

Student moves and family moves

Term start and end dates are the busiest times here. Our student removals service suits moves between halls, shared houses and home, and a man and van is often enough for a single room. Families moving a full house get a larger team, with packing available if you want it.

If you are comparing areas close by, read our pages on Clayton and Wibsey, or visit our main Bradford removals page. Use Get Free Quote and tell us about stairs and parking at both addresses.

Moving in Great Horton: common questions

Do you move students in and out of Great Horton?

Yes. Great Horton is close to the University of Bradford and Bradford College, so we move a lot of students between halls, shared houses and home. Smaller loads often suit a man and van.

Is parking difficult on Great Horton Road?

Great Horton Road is a busy main road with bus routes, so we rarely load directly from it. We usually park on a side street and plan the carry, and we check access before the day.

Can you move furniture out of a back-to-back house?

Yes. Back-to-backs often have narrow, steep stairs, so we measure large items first and dismantle beds or wardrobes where needed. Tell us about any tight turns when you ask for a quote.
